Melanie has worked in local government at the Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Islands as a legal research officer, reporting directly to the CEO.
At the Shire, Melanie assisted in the review of local laws and policies and also conducted general legal research on assorted local government issues. Melanie has experience assisting in the management of a broad range of governance issues faced by local governments. She was involved in policy development and prepared agenda items for council meetings.
“I enjoy helping people form a clearer understanding of their role and govern in a more methodical and thoughtful manner. Having a positive impact on the day to day functions of a local government results in positive impacts in the surrounding community. I find it quite satisfying to be involved in that process.”
Melanie is a valuable member of the governance support team at Civic Legal and is the project coordinator for Project Aware, the unique governance support service for local government clients. Drawing on her first-hand experience, she is involved in the development of products to help the team raise the standards of governance in local governments.
Melanie's considered and highly organised approach supports the smooth and effective running of the services delivered by Civic Legal to its local government clients.
