Reflections on the 20th Anniversary of Civic Legal

The Role

A rare opportunity has arisen for a junior lawyer to join our experienced Insurance Team, working predominantly on Compulsory Third Party insurance claims.

The team is overseen by Laura Angel, a leading lawyer in the insurance sector in Western Australia.

This position would suit a newly admitted lawyer (one to three years PAE) in Western Australia with an interest in insurance work.

The role includes pro bono opportunities for one or two days per week.

Key tasks

Under the supervision of senior lawyers, responsibilities include:

  • Drafting legal advice to clients
  • Assisting in the management of client files
  • Attending hearings on behalf of the client
  • Legal research and analysis
  • Liaising with clients, counsel and experts
  • Conducting interviews of expert witnesses and other key potential witnesses in preparing the client’s case
  • Drafting pleadings, affidavits, notices, chamber summons applications, witness statements
  • Assisting with pro bono matters
  • Secondment to a Community Legal Centre or similar institution.

Selection Criteria

Candidates should be 1-3 years PAE, admitted to legal practice in WA and hold a current practising certificate.

They should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong academic record
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work well in a team and autonomously
  • Experience in motor vehicle personal injury work (Defendant or Plaintiff).
