Background

Part of the Civic Legal team since 2010, Geraldine was admitted to practice as a lawyer in England and Wales in 2007 and in Northern Ireland in 2008. She practised as a lawyer in Northern Ireland for two years before moving to Western Australia. During that period Geraldine gained valuable experience both in private practice and as an in-house government lawyer, working predominantly in employers’ liability, public liability and road traffic insurance litigation.

On joining Civic Legal, Geraldine worked as a paralegal whilst working towards gaining admission to practice as a lawyer in Western Australia and was admitted in Western Australia in 2014.

Experience

Geraldine has extensive experience in commercial, local government and private client matters. Her commercial experience includes drafting and reviewing commercial legal documentation such as contracts, leases and franchise agreements. On the private client side she has extensive experience in assisting individuals with a range of issues including property matters, wills and the administration of deceased estates.

Geraldine’s practice with Civic Legal is predominantly in local government law and local government matters and her breadth of experience enables her to assist local government bodies with a broad range of issues. Geraldine’s experience in local government law and local government matters includes:

  • Providing statutory interpretation
  • Advising local government bodies on the operation and application of legislation governing their operations
  • Providing advice and assistance in relation to property transactions
  • Preparing and advising on contracts, leases, licences, easements and other property related legal agreements and documentation
  • Providing advice and assistance in relation to governance and compliance issues, employee misconduct and defamation
  • Providing advice and assistance in rates recovery and enforcement actions
  • Preparing cases for prosecution in all courts in Western Australia, including prosecutions pursuant to the Dog Act 1976, the Health Act 1911 and local parking laws
  • During her time with Civic Legal, Geraldine has become a trusted advisor to her local government, commercial and private clients and has built strong and lasting relationships with her clients through the provision of clear and practical advice and assistance
